On Tuesday, the Club for Growth PAC weighed in on the race to replace Tom Price, granting their endorsement to former Johns Creek Councilman Bob Gray. In a statement, they called Gray the “proven economic conservative” candidate.
“He’s been a consistent fighter for lower taxes and less spending, and he’s campaigned on pro-growth policies, and has called for a full and immediate repeal of Obamacare,” Club for Growth PAC President David McIntosh said of Gray. “The Club for Growth PAC is proud to endorse a candidate who has successfully put free-market principles into practice and will fight hard for them in the U.S. House.”
Conservative host Erick Erickson addressed the endorsement on his show Tuesday. He claimed that sources close to the PAC believe that Democrat Jon Ossoff is growing in name I.D., and are “worried about his positive image.”
“I know this from the Club For Growth guys – they’ve felt like all along, Bob Gray was the guy closest to them on the issues,” he said. “If it’s [Karen] Handel or Bob Gray, I think conservatives in D.C. will be happy with either one of them. But there is a real growing concern about Jon Ossoff, that he is gaining a lot of traction and has a lot of money to boost his favorability ratings.”
The Club for Growth is known to put big money behind their chosen candidates. In last year’s election to replace Lynn Westmoreland, the Club had backed former State Senator Mike Crane with over $800,000 in attack ads against now-Congressman Drew Ferguson.
