Washington is crazier than ever these days. As Republican officials are bombarded with angry phone calls, town hall interruptions, and constant waves of protests, some representatives are looking for ways to dodge the conflict. However, Georgia Congressman Doug Collins’ reportedly has a different method of handling his outraged callers.

According to the Washington Examiner, Rep. Collins will personally answer calls in his office, engaging with oppositional voters.

From the Washington Examiner:

If all of his staff is busy and he has a free minute, he picks it up himself, he said. That takes many callers by surprise, he said.

“I’ll say, ‘This is Doug Collins,'” and usually the person on the other end is confused and will ask if he is the congressman, he said, adding it usually helps disarm potentially angry callers.

He won’t fight with callers but he’ll “hear them out and then explain my position,” he said.

For Collins, the method seems to work. At the very least, he’s setting a positive standard for others in the House Republican Caucus, where he serves as the Vice Chair.
