With the economy being a hot topic as of late, the Green Tea Coalition partnered with the Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club are sponsoring two town hall meetings in this coming week for information on Georgia Power Company’s potential new rate for customers.
There will be two town hall meetings. One on Tuesday October 29th from 6:30-8pm at the Georgia Mountain Center on 301 Main Street SW Gainesville, Georgia 30501 and the second on Wednesday October 30th from 6:30-8pm at the University of Georgia Chapel at 109 Herty Drive in Athens, Georgia.
At the Gainesville meeting 3 of the 5 Public Service Commissioners will be present and in Athens 2 of 5 will be present. A Sierra club representative told Martha Zoller of zpolitics Georgia Power’s position will be represented by the commissioners. These hearing are being billed as an extension of the public hearings held in Atlanta on this issue.
Tim Echols, one of the Public Service Commissioners most vocal on these issues posted a link to an article about the rate case in his most recent newsletter and said, “It is a busy time at the Commission as we hear evidence for and against a GA Power rate increase. At each hearing, public witnesses are allowed to address the Commission. Then, we have formal witnesses brought by the company and “interveners,” as we call them. Please study this issue and let your opinion be known.”
These hearings are an opportunity for you to be heard. Be there.
