This Monday, Michael Owens, a Democrat from District 13 announced that he will challenge David Scott, incumbent, for U.S. Congress in Georgia.
Michael Owens served in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his time served during the Persian Gulf War.
Owens has also had success as a business leader and entrepreneur. He has worked at the global level for information technology companies that specialized in providing information and security services to foreign and domestic government entities.
Owens believes in giving back to the community, as seen in his multiple leadership roles. He serves as Treasurer of the Young Democrats of Cobb County and serves on the state-wide Young Democrats of Georgia Finance committee. Michael Owens has also been a member of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta and the Georgia Council of International Visitors for several years. He was named Vice President of policy and government affairs for the National Black & :Latino Council.
He said this in a press release:
“I am excited to bring a strong progressive voice for Georgia’s 13th district in congress,” said Owens. “We find ourselves at a critical time in America. Creating an education system that benefits every American child, protecting our precious land, air and water through stronger environmental protections and building an economy that works as well for the middle-class and as it does the wealthiest among us.”
