Updated 12:30 pm:

Local Republican activists gathered today outside of democrat Congressman John Barrow’s (GA-12) local office in Augusta to unveil a new mobile billboard that will travel Georgia’s 12th Congressional District in the coming months.

The billboard, which is more than 20 feet wide reads: “Congressman Barrow’s Plan: Put the IRS in charge of your healthcare. Fed up? Call John Barrow at 706-722-4494.”

Augusta-based communications consultant Ryan Mahoney partnered with the National Republican Congressional Committee to put on the press conference, which included leaders from the local Republican clubs.

Mahoney said, “We are gathered here today as a united force ready to unseat John Barrow and replace him with a commonsense conservative leader that we can trust.  For far too long, Barrow has voted with President Obama and Nancy Pelosi while paying lip service to his constituents.  We’ve had enough and it’s time to send Barrow home, wherever that might be.”

In an interview about what Republican groups are going to do to unseat Barrow, this was said on background from a former NRCC staff person, “We are going to get him eventually.  We are putting $6M into this race for 2014. We should have won it in 2012 and Barrow won’t survive this time.”

Here comes 2014. The NRCC is holding a press conference in Georgia today.

Republicans are showing an early commitment to winning GA-12, now held by John Barrow with the launch of a mobile billboard today against Barrow – illustrating Georgia’s continued role as a major battleground for control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

NRCC Southeastern spokesperson Katie Prill will be there. The theme is Obamacare and Barrow, but Barrow voted against Obamacare initially, but has voted for the funding. So this may be a tough sell. A kind of, “he voted against it, before he voted for it” ploy.

From the press release the event is:

WHAT: Press conference to unveil the National Republican Congressional Committee’s newest campaign highlighting John Barrow’s continued support of ObamaCare.

We’ve got a spy there, so we’ll let you know how it goes.
