Lois Lerner Walks Out

We’ll be following this story throughout the day and it’s important to every Georgian.

As expected, Lois Lerner, the IRS official who admitted the service had been targeting conservative groups seeking 501 (c)(4) status. Also, as expected, she made a statement and then took the “5th.” What wasn’t expected is her walking out and not taking questions and then invoking the “5th” for every question.  I was looking forward to that.

My question is this, “How can an employee of the federal government and by extension, reporting to the Congress, refuse to answer questions about her performance?”  She says she did nothing wrong.  She’s not acting like it.

Here’s a statement to start the discussion: Officials in D.C. were aware of this practice, even while publically claiming that it never happened

Here is Rep. Issa’s opening statement:

Rep. Elijah Cummings, the co-chair,  has to bring up Crossroads GPS and Doug Shulman being appointed by President Bush.  “To do our jobs we must focus on oversight and reform, and reform,” Rep. Elijah Cummings.
